Impératif négatif
L'impératif négatif recourt à l'opérateur « do » + not à la seconde personne, et à let + not à la première et troisième :
Interdiction :
dans la proposition principale
Do + not (don't) + infinitif
Don't walk on the grass. Ne marchez pas sur l'herbe. Don't give her an aspirin, it's bad for her! Ne lui donne pas d'aspirine, c'est mauvais pour elle ! Please don't be rude: don't talk to me like that! S'il te plaît ne sois pas impoli, ne me parle pas sur ce ton ! Let's not talk about pornography while the kids are listening. Ne parlons pas de pornographie pendant que les enfants nous écoutent.

Dans le discours indirect , l'impératif rapporté devient un infinitif négatif :
not + to + infinitif:

L' interdiction peut être exprimée par must + not ou be + not + to :

Don't have to n'exprime pas une interdiction
L'interdiction n'est pas exprimée par don't have to, qui exprime l'absence d'obligation :
