Les formes du passif

La forme passive du verbe se compose du verbe to be (ou, plus rarement to get, voir ci-dessous) à la personne, au temps et à l’aspect voulus, suivi du participe passé :

Formes passives avec get

Dans la formation du passif, l’auxiliaire be peut être remplacé, dans un emploi moins formel, par get, qui se conjugue comme un verbe ordinaire, c-à-d. avec do.

Le passif avec get met davantage l’accent sur le processus que sur le résultat :

Eventually, the family got settled.
Enfin, la famille finit par s’installer.

The children got bitten by hundreds of mosquitoes.
Les enfants se firent piquer par des centaines de moustiques.

Most of their things got lost during the war.
La plupart de leurs affaires se perdirent pendant la guerre.
