Infinitif

De MultiGram

Infinitif

L'infinitif de be est be.

You can ski, skate, hike, bowl without any difficulty.

She told him to go away.
Elle lui dit de s'en aller.

It is good to be here.
Il est bon d'être ici.

infinitif progressif

L'infinitif progressif est formé par be + participe présent:

He might be sleeping.

The machine does not seem to be working.

infinitif parfait

L'infinitif parfait est formé par have + participe passé:

You might have warned us.
Tu aurais pu nous prévenir.

I am glad to have talked to you before the meeting.

He must have been very tired after the race.

She could have said the same thing (= but I didn't).

I should have sent her a birthday card (= but I didn't).

infinitif passif

L'infinitif passif est formé par be + participe passé:

The job must be finished today.
Le travail doit être terminé aujourd'hui.

She likes to be seen in the presence of famous actors.

infinitif parfait-progressif

L'infinitif parfait-progressif est formé par have been + participe présent:

They must have been spying on us.
Ils ont dû nous espionner.

The family is said to have been working for the government for three generations.

infinitif parfait-passif

L'infinitif parfait-passif est formé par have been + participe passé.

He should have been vaccinated before the trip.

You ought to have been punished for drunken driving.
