There is, there are

Les assertions « existentielles » sont introduites par there is / there are. En anglais, au contraire du français et d’autres langues (=> ENG 016), le verbe s’accorde en nombre (singulier ou pluriel) avec le sujet qui suit :

There is a cup on the table
Il y a une tasse sur la table

There are two cups on the table
Il y a deux tasses sur la table

NOTE : Ne dites pas : There has two cups

There is two cups

It is two cups

They are two cups
