Late

Comme adverbe, late signifie "tard".

The train arrived later than we expected.
Le train arriva plus tard que nous n'attendions. 

L'adjectif correspondant se traduit plus facilement par une paraphrase :

In the late nineteenth or early twentieth century.
Vers la fin du XIXe ou le début du XXe siècle.

The late John Lennon would have loved this arrangement of his song.
Feu John Lennon aurait aimé cette orchestration de sa chanson.
