Anciennes formes

Les pronoms adverbiaux thereof (= "of that"), therein (= "in it"), thereon (= "on it"), et les relatifs whereof (= "of which") whereby (= "by which") etc. n'apparaissent plus que dans les textes anciens et formels, notamment juridiques. En néerlandais, ces formes ("daarvan, daarin, daarop, waarvan", etc.) sont courantes.

A will or any part thereof may be revoked by a subsequent will.
Un testament ou toute partie de celui-ci peut être révoqué par un testament suivant.

You must sign the contract and the sections contained therein.
Vous devez signer le contrat ainsi que toutes les clauses qu'il contient.

The island, and all villages thereon, may be affected by the tidal wave.
L'île, et tous les villages qui s'y trouvent, seront affectés par le raz de marée.

Attention, therefore (au contraire du néerlandais "daarvoor") ne signifie pas "pour cela", "dans ce but", mais "pour cette raison".

The question was too difficult and therefore most examinees failed to answer it.
La question était trop difficile; c'est pourquoi la plupart des candidats à l'examen ne purent y répondre.

Je ne cours pas le marathon.  Je suis trop vieux pour cela  (nl.: "ik ben te oud daarvoor).
I am not running the marathon.  I am too old  for that (therefore).

Des relatifs adverbiaux tels que whereat, whereby, wherein, whereon, wherewith, etc. existent, mais sont trop rares et formels pour être employés comme équivalents du néerlandais waaraan, waarin, waarop, waarmee, etc. (=> "waar" + préposition en néerlandais).

The letter whereby I hand in my resignation.
La lettre par laquelle je remets ma démission.

He turned to leave, whereat she began to weep.
Il se retourna pour partir, sur quoi elle commença a pleurer.

The ground whereon she trod.
Le sol sur lequel elle a posé le pied.
