Therefore

L'adverbe therefore (au contraire du néerlandais "daarvoor") ne signifie pas "pour cela", "dans ce but", mais "pour cette raison".

The question was too difficult and therefore most examinees failed to answer it.
La question était trop difficile; c'est pourquoi la plupart des candidats à l'examen ne purent y répondre.

There has been a bomb alert; therefore, no one is allowed to enter the building.
Il y a eu une alerte à la bombe; par conséquent, personne n'est admis dans le bâtiment.

I am really too busy; so (therefore,) thus I cannot participate in the parade.
Je suis vraiment trop occupé; c'est pourquoi je ne puis pas participer au cortège.

Je ne cours pas le marathon.  Je suis trop vieux pour cela  (nl.: "ik ben te oud daarvoor").
I am not running the marathon.  I am too old  for that (therefore).
