Dans un contexte interrogatif, les pronoms indéfinis commençant par some (someone, something) sont généralement remplacés par des pronoms commençant par any : (anyone, anything), sauf si l'on attend une réponse affirmative à une offre :
Is anything missing ? Est-ce qu’il manque quelque chose ? Have they seen anything ? Ont-ils vu quelque chose ? Do you need anything ? As-tu besoin de quelque chose ? Can I bring you something ? - Yes, thank you, I'd like some sherry. Puis-je t’apporter quelque chose ? - Oui, volontiers, j'aimerais bien un peu de Xérès.
