There is, there are

Les assertions " existentielles " sont introduites par there is / there are. En anglais, au contraire du français et d'autres langues, le verbe s'accorde en nombre (singulier ou pluriel) avec le sujet qui suit :

There is a cup on the table.
Il y a une tasse sur la table.

There are two cups on the table.
Il y a deux tasses sur la table.

Note : Ne dites pas :

There has two cups.
 
There is two cups.

It is two cups.

They are two cups.
