Les adverbes interrogatifs tels que Where, when, how, why, etc. portent sur une circonstance. Ils se trouvent en début de phrase, mais n’en sont pas le sujet :
Where are they going ? Où vont-ils ? How did you manage ? Comment t’es-tu débrouillé ? Why have they left ? Pourquoi sont-ils partis ?
Dans les questions indirectes, ils servent de conjonction :
They came to ask where to find him. Ils vinrent demander où le trouver. She wanted to know how to get to the station. Elle voulait savoir comment arriver à la gare
